“Preparedness today prevents hardship tomorrow.”

The Department of Local Government and Disaster Management, in collaboration with the Dzongkhag Administration, PemaGatshel, conducted a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Sensitisation and Earthquake Drill Programme from 30 April to 1 May 2026 at the Dzongkhag Conference Hall. The programme aimed to enhance awareness, strengthen preparedness, and improve coordination among key stakeholders in disaster risk reduction and emergency response.

The sessions covered key DRR concepts and terminologies, Bhutan’s disaster management framework, community-based disaster risk management tools, hazard and risk assessment exercises, and earthquake evacuation planning. Participants also engaged in hands-on earthquake mock drills, gaining practical experience in evacuation procedures and emergency coordination during seismic events.

The programme was attended by Dasho Dzongdag, DT Thrizin, Gups, GAOs, Mangmis, Regional Heads, Bhutan Red Cross Society Coordinator, Sector Heads, and other relevant stakeholders.
