Capacity Building Training on Education Sector Disaster Management and Contingency Planning PemaGatshel Dzongkhag | 29 – 31 May 2026

The Dzongkhag Education Office, PemaGatshel, is conducting a three-day Capacity Building Training for Disaster Focal Teachers and Principals from schools across the Dzongkhag. The training encompasses key thematic areas including the Education Disaster Management and Contingency Plan (DMCP), Hazard, Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (HVCA), evacuation mapping, standardized emergency drill procedures, First Aid conducted by health professionals from the Dzongkhag Hospital, fire safety theory and practical sessions facilitated by the Royal Bhutan Police, and the development of SMART Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and School Disaster Management Plans (SDMPs). The training was graced by Dasho Dzongdag, delivering key remarks on disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and the importance of proactive leadership in emergency response, emphasizing that a culture of preparedness must extend beyond the school and begin within every household. The Dzongkhag Disaster Management Officer also delivered a presentation on Disaster SOPs and contingency measures, underscoring the roles and responsibilities of schools during emergencies and encouraging all participants to champion awareness and resilience within their respective school communities.
