Hon’ble Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk of the Ministry of Health graced Pemagatshel Dzongkhag with an official visit. During the visit, Lyonpo toured Yongla Gonpa and Pemagatshel District Hospital, and met with the dedicated health staff.

Lyonpo emphasized the importance of decentralizing healthcare services to the Dzongkhag Administration to enhance efficiency and service delivery. At the same time, Lyonpo highlighted the need to centralize the management of human resources and biomedical equipment to ensure their optimal and need-based utilization.

Lyonpo also stressed the importance of strengthening coordination between preventive and curative services to effectively address the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). In this regard, Lyonpo encouraged the active involvement of traditional medicine practitioners (Drungtsho) in advocacy and awareness programs on NCDs, in collaboration with Dzongkhag Public Health Officers.

Additionally, Lyonpo directed that Primary Health Care Centres place greater focus on preventive and promotive services rather than primarily curative care. Lyonpo also shared that World Health Day will be observed annually to recognize and honor outstanding performers in the health sector.

Furthermore, Lyonpo conveyed a proposal for the construction of a 10-bedded hospital at Denchhi.

During the visit, Lyonpo also visited Druk Migyur Dechen Dzong, where meetings were held with sector heads and Gups, and the proposed site for the 10-bedded hospital at Denchhi was inspected.
