Natural Resource and Environment Committee of the National Council held a comprehensive consultation meeting with the stakeholders in PemaGatshel Dzongkhag today.
The program was attended by Dasho Dzongdag, Dasho Drungpa, Gups, Thromdhe Thuemi, Forestry staff, Sector heads, proprietors of sawmills, wood-based industry operators and NRDCL staff.
Forest sector’s contribution to GDP was discussed and ways forward to enhance sector’s engagement in income generation and employment creation, challenges and opportunities were also deliberated.
It was a fruitful engagement and the Dzongkhag administration will work with stakeholders to enhance the role of forestry sector in meaningful income and employment generation while also ensuring the long term sustainability and inter-generational equity of this important natural endowment.
